Climbing Roses - Elevate Your Garden

Specifications:

  • Height: 7-12 feet
  • Germination Time: Around 40 Days
  • Blooming Season: Early, Mid & Late Summer
  • Sun Requirements: Partial Shade, Partial and Full Sun

Description: Climbing roses, though not true climbers like vines, add charm to vertical gardens. With captivating blooms throughout the summer, these roses need support to thrive. Create an enchanting garden space by incorporating trellises, arbors, or creatively training them over fences, pillars, or garden structures.

How to Germinate/Grow:

Cold Stratification: Expose seeds to around 35°F in the refrigerator for 45-60 days. Moistened paper towel and zip-lock bag method is effective. After stratification, plant seeds in a mixture of 50% planting soil and 50% vermiculite, placing them in trays with good drainage. Provide sunlight or use grow lights for 16 hours a day. Keep moist and transplant seedlings to individual pots after the appearance of true rose leaves.

How to Grow:

1. Seed Testing: Test seeds by placing them in water; discard floaters. Plump, sinking seeds have better chances.

2. Container Choice: Purchase a flat container fitting into the refrigerator. Consult your gardening center for the right one.

3. Soil Mixture: Mix equal parts sand, soil, and peat moss or use a pre-made mixture from the gardening center.

4. Planting: Plant each rose seed ¼-inch deep, spaced 1 inch apart in the flat.

5. Refrigeration: Place the flat in the refrigerator at around 40°F for approximately three months for germination.

6. Transition to Room Temperature: Move the flat to a sunny window with room temperature between 65 to 70°F. Water lightly, avoiding overwatering or letting the soil become too dry. Transplant the healthiest seedlings to the garden the following spring.

Note:

  • Roses thrive with well-draining humus soil.
  • Avoid flooding; water only when the soil is dry.
  • Be cautious with fertilizers to prevent local rot.
  • Provide ample sunlight; fertilize diligently in summer.
  • Prune in fall to control growth and enhance flowering.

Rose Care Tips: Watch for aphids and implement preventive measures.

Elevate your garden with the timeless beauty of climbing roses.
