Once sprouts appear, lower the temperature to 25°C before planting, aiming for 13-20°C to avoid leggy growth. During the seedling phase, manage water and fertilizers carefully to avoid overwatering.
- Transplanting: Transplant melon seedlings from late March to early April, keeping a distance of 50 cm between plants. Add soil fungicide and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to each planting hole, then water thoroughly.
- Branch Management: Focus on the primary and secondary vines for fruiting. Prune the plant when it has 4 true leaves, allowing 3 primary vines per plant, each bearing 5-6 fruits. If necessary, allow for secondary vines to ensure optimal fruit set, maintaining 6-8 fruits per plant.
- Fertilizing: Melons require substantial nutrients, especially potassium, to enhance quality. Apply ammonium sulfate along with regular watering. Keep soil moisture around 70% before fruit set, 80%-85% during fruit enlargement, and reduce to 55%-60% as fruits mature.
- Harvesting: Melons are generally ready for harvest about 50 days after flowering.
